Walking Blood Bank

Blood Donor RecruItment Across Ukraine

Our Blood Donor Recruitment Program aims to transform the blood donor system in Ukraine:

  • Currently, 24.5% of deaths are potentially avoidable with sufficient supply of blood
  • We will provide 15 million free blood type tests
  • Recruiting 3 million new blood donors
  • Recruiting 750,000 new recurring blood donors

One of the most pressing challenges in Ukraine is ensuring a stable and safe supply of blood for medical facilities, especially in frontline areas. The Yashchenko Foundation, in collaboration with Donor UA and Eldon Biologicals, has launched the Walking Blood Bank Program to address this critical need. Our program, supported by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, provides free blood tests across the country with the aim of recruiting new blood donors and reducing the shortage of blood.

By offering convenient and accessible blood testing services, we encourage more individuals to become regular blood donors. This initiative aims to provide 15 million free blood tests over the next five years, ultimately recruiting 3 million new blood donors. By doing so, we address the critical shortage of blood and ensure that hospitals can recieve the specific types of blood they need for routine operation or in response to a mass casualty event.

By utilising technology, we can communicate with the donors on our database through our app and push notifications. We can therefore respond to a serge in demand for any blood type in any location across the country in real-time, reducing delays and ensuring that hospitals have the supplies they need. Studies indicate that there would be be a 24.5% reduction in potentially survivable deaths if there was a sufficient supply of blood in Ukraine.

Our program is especially vital in frontline communities where the demand for blood is high, and resources are limited. By expanding the donor base and creating a sustainable system, the Walking Blood Bank Program supports Ukraine’s healthcare infrastructure and saves lives. Through this initiative, we are committed to creating a robust blood supply, ensuring that medical facilities can provide the necessary care for patients in emergencies and routine medical situations.
